ABOUT THE BOOK
Operation Red Lotus is a quest to understand the real history of the Anglo-Indian War of 1857. A quest that led the Tope family to discover the dramatic battle maneuvers of their ancestor, the legendary Tatya Tope, as well as the true import of the War. Operation Red Lotus is the first detailed account of Tatya Tope that covers his entire campaign from the planning of the war until his death. |
ABOUT THE SPEAKER Parag Tope
Parag Tope is a silicon valley based entrepreneur who has a relentless passion for history, is the chief architect of the book. Parag applied his analytical skills to bring a refreshing perspective to the reconstruction of historical events. Parag along with other contributors spent more than two years in and out of various archives and libraries, poring over volumes of source material, translating original letters, picking-up the threads of a scattered Tatya Topé family and piecing together a complex puzzle of 1857. |

ABOUT THE TALK Operation Red Lotus gives the reader a near ringside experience of Tatya Tope's brilliant chess like moves and counter moves, yet it is not just a military chronicle limited by the period it covers; it also addresses issues of modern relevance. Operation Red Lotus offers an Indic paradigm to what freedom really means. It provides a platform for the dream of a resurgent India and its charisma as the eternal nation. The lessons of 1857, especially the triad of freedom, remain alive even today. The British course was to unleash the European worldview that altered the outlook of the Hindu thought. Hinduism's outlook changed to looking at "social" and "philosophical" civilizational aspects, ignoring the political and economic aspects. Hindus, even today, have little understanding of the role of Dharma in politics. The phrase Hindu-political model remains misunderstood. American Hindus are in a unique position to look within their perception and see a path that can make a political difference not only in the US but also in India. The author will demonstrate similarities between the Indic triad of freedom and American Libertarianism, using 1857 as a pivot. American Hindus should be in a position to understand how the idea of limited government is as relevant in India as it is in the US. |
